Maya
was introduced to belly dance in 1996 and has been doing it
obsessively ever since. Today, she is a sought after performer,
known for her energetic and passionate performances. She is
also a respected teacher and choreographer.
Over the years, Maya's personal style has been nourished by
a variety of local dancers, most notably Noura, Roula Said and
Yasmina Ramzy. She has also traveled across Canada and the US
in order to study with some of the worlds best known Middle
Eastern dance artists including Magdy El Leisy from Egypt, Elena
Lentini from New York and Suhaila Salimpour from San Francisco.
Maya's
dancing has been featured in a number of film and television
productions, including the music video "Soul For Sale"
by Rusty, Showtime film "Rated X" with Charlie Sheen
and Emilio Estevez and recently on CityTV's Breakfast Television.
Maya
is a proud member of Roula Said's funky dance troupe, "The
Roulettes" as well as Yasmina Ramzy's innovative, "Arabesque
Dance Company". As a soloist she performs regularly at special
events and restaurants around Toronto. Currently she teaches
with The Toronto Belly Dance Collective.
